The City of Toronto French Committee's
mandate The
City of Toronto French Committee (CTFC) has
been established in 1981. Its mandate, as adopted
by City Council in March 1999, consists of:
- promoting
the development and identity of Toronto's
Francophone Community;
- promoting
Francophone interests at City Council;
- encouraging
Francophone participation on different municipal
committees;
- increasing
the number and quality of French-Language
services offered by the City;
- facilitating
the links between City Council, the Community
Councils and Francophone taxpayers; and
- being
fully integrated into the consultative and
decision-making structure of the City.
Membership
The
members of the CTFC are
selected according to the usual rules and
procedures established by the City of Toronto for
appointments on its consultative
organizations. The composition of the CTFC
is as follows:
- four
municipal councilors designated by City Council
with a mandate to be determined by rules set out
by City Council;
- six citizen members of the
Francophone community, chosen by area of
residence, one for each of the former six
municipalities of the former Metro Toronto (East
York, Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, Toronto
and York); and
- nine
members of Francophone non-profit community
groups, one from each of the following sectors:
health, community and social services/social
housing/ services for the handicapped; culture,
recreation and heritage; education and skills
training; economy, charities and volunteering;
ethno-cultural groups; women's groups; youth
groups; seniors' groups.
