CFVT : SERVING TORONTO'S FRANCOPHONE COMMUNITY FOR OVER 20 YEARS

Since its inception in 1981, the City of Toronto French Committee has been:

promoting the development and identity of Toronto's Francophone Community;
promoting Francophone interests at City Council;
encouraging Francophone participation on different municipal committees;
increasing the number and quality of French-Language services offered by the City;
increasing the number and quality of French-Language services offered by the City;
facilitating the links between City Council, the Community Councils and Francophone taxpayers; and
fully integrated into the consultative and decision-making structure of the City.



 
THE FRANCOPHONE COMMUNITY IN THE GREATER TORONTO AREA - GTA

According to the 2001 census, 34 900 francophones live in Toronto. Hence the Francophone community represents:

1.42% of the 2 456 805 residents of the city of Toronto;

6,67% of the 522 765 Ontarians whose mother tongue is French;

43,5% of the 80 120 francophones living in the Greater Toronto Area - GTA.

In addition to the city of Toronto, the GTA region includes Durham, Halton, Peel, and York.

Thanks to many dedicated volunteers and dynamic community groups, Franco- Torontonians represent one of the most active communities in the city.
